5.7MWp Solar PV Array Consented on the former Langton Colliery site

Van Elle’s 5.7MWp Solar PV Array on the former Langton Colliery site has received planning consent from Ashfield District Council under delegated powers.

Arcus has been involved in the whole project lifecycle, from initial feasibility through to planning application submission and post submission support. Arcus led all planning services and provided technical and environmental support services to Van Elle during the preparation of the planning application, including landscape and visual, ecology and ornithology, hydrology and drainage, archaeology and cultural heritage, and coal mining risk assessment. A particular sensitivity of the scheme was its integration with the agreed restoration and management of the former colliery. Pre-application consultation, in tandem with the landscaping and ecological enhancements put forward, sought to provide greater long term viability for the site, in terms of providing certainty over the continued aftercare.

The site is located on the Nottinghamshire / Derbyshire border, adjacent to the M1 motorway. The site is a restored former colliery and its location in close proximity to industrial estates, retail centres and the M1 reduces its sensitivity. The undulating topography combines with the presence of woodland to restrict long distance views across the landscape making it an excellent location for a solar array.
