Battery Storage Appeal Success – Arbroath

Arcus undertook initial site search and then all planning and environmental requirements for the Arbroath Battery Storage Facility which was submitted to Angus Council in 2018. Despite having no statutory objections the application was refused under delegated powers. They key reasons for refusal put forward by the Council was that the Development was contrary to Policy D1 of the Angus Local Development Plan, being located beyond the Council’s Development Limit boundary for Arbroath, and would involve development of a small area of prime agricultural land (Policy PV20). Arcus provided an appeal statement and managed the appeal process with the Council’s Development Management Review Committee. Following a site visit the appeal was allowed and consent granted by councillors by 3 votes to 2, with Arbroath SNP councillor Alex King stating “The applicant’s lengthy supporting statement is a very cogent argument as to why this should be allowed. The development needs to be alongside a major sub-station, the loss of agricultural land is not significant and once the planting around this site has matured you won’t even see this.”
