The Air Quality team provide support for Environmental Permit / PPC Permit applications, including producing reports for submission to regulatory authorities.
Depending on the nature of the industrial process there may be a risk to air quality from controlled releases to air, or from fugitive emissions such as dust or odour. Risks to the environment are initially assessed using the H1 software produced by the Environment Agency and Scottish Environment Protection Agency. Risks may be screened out as insignificant or more detailed assessment using dispersion modelling may be required.
Modelling results can also be used to inform development design, such as determining suitable stack heights, to ensure environmental impacts from air emissions are acceptable.
Permit applications for dusty or odorous processes may also need to be accompanied by a dust or odour management plan.
We provide support to operators to maintain permit compliance (e.g. emissions monitoring and routine reporting) or to satisfy permit improvement programme conditions.
We provide support for the following sectors:
- Waste management and composting facilities
- Power generation
- Energy from waste and incineration
- Anaerobic digestion
- Waste water and sewage treatment
- Mineral extraction
