Arcus provided the full range of environmental and planning services to support a major planning application by leading UK solar developer, Elgin Energy, for Wood Lane Solar Farm near Sturton-le-Steeple in Bassetlaw. The development occupies circa 97 ha of agricultural land and will have an installed capacity of 49.9 MWp. At the virtual planning committee meeting Bassetlaw District Council voted strongly in favour of the Development. Arcus were responsible for the landscape masterplan and design input and preparing the supporting technical reports including planning statement, landscape and visual assessment, flood risk and drainage assessment, archaeology and heritage statement, ecological and ornithological assessments and transport statement. Arcus were also heavily involved in the public consultation for the project. Key issues the application addressed were landscape and visual, public rights of way, flood risk and drainage, ecology and biodiversity and archaeology and Arcus worked proactively with relevant consultees to ensure any concerns were appropriately addressed through the application. It is a great site for large scale ground mounted solar, close to West Burton Power Station which recently shut down coal fired operations – a great example of transitioning to a lower carbon future. The success comes on the back of a number of other recent planning consents, taking our total to almost 600 MW of approved solar projects in the past 1-2 years.
