Senior/Principal Landscape Architect

York and Glasgow

Our Landscape Architecture team is seeking to recruit a Senior or Principal Landscape Architect to continue to develop our growing business. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their career and work on a diverse and exciting portfolio of projects across the UK within a friendly office and a great city centre location.

We are a multi-disciplinary consultancy based in York, Glasgow and Cape Town working in all sectors for a large range of clients on projects ranging from small scale, to large high profile projects.

We are looking for a highly skilled Landscape Architect with a passion for design and particular expertise in landscape assessment, LVA and LVIA/TVIA.  We work across all Landscape/RIBA work stages and undertake the full suite of services including landscape master planning, assessment, and contract supervision.  This is a unique opportunity to form a key part of a successful team, to take a company wide lead in landscape assessment work building on our industry leading reputation in this field; together with the opportunity to deliver exciting public realm and master planning schemes.

We are recruiting on the back of a successful year particularly in the property and renewables sectors.  We are looking for the right person to join the team and deliver projects to the highest quality and able to take an innovative approach, work autonomously and as a part of a multi-disciplinary team and be a good communicator. The candidate should have between 1 and 6 years’ post chartership experience and demonstrable experience in a variety of design and LVIA projects, ideally including windfarms.

Our workload is diverse and recent projects include LVIA for numerous wind and solar farms, the masterplan and public realm for the Terrys Chocolate Factory in York, design of the Africa enclosure for Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Tetley’s Brewery site TVIA. We undertake impact assessment, public realm design, landscape management, arboriculture, landscape planning and character assessment for renewable energy projects, care homes, universities and schools, social housing, and residential projects.

Graduate/Consultant Ecologist


Arcus is a multi-disciplinary environmental and planning consultancy delivering high quality projects in all major sectors and at all stages of project lifecycle, from feasibility to operational monitoring.  Our long established but still growing ecology team are looking for a high-calibre Graduate/Consultant Ecologist with a commitment to ecology to join the team in York and help deliver a range of projects in a variety of sectors throughout the UK. The role will involve a large amount of field work and also office-based support. The candidate will be supported in their role by our friendly and experienced team of ecologists who will provide the guidance and help needed to fulfil the role.

The successful candidate will ideally have some experience of environmental consultancy and field work, and Graduate membership of CIEEM, although training will also be provided.  The role offers a competitive salary package, plus benefits, excellent training and development opportunities and the chance to work on a selection of exciting projects across a range of sectors.

Senior/Principal Ecologist


Our ecology team works as part of a multi-disciplinary environmental and planning consultancy in all major sectors and at all stages of project lifecycle, from feasibility to operational monitoring.

We are recruiting a Senior/Principal Ecologist to join our York team to work on projects throughout the UK. The successful candidate will have at least one year of experience as a Senior Ecologist in a consultancy role and at least Associate membership of CIEEM.

The candidate should have a demonstrable track record of managing and undertaking ecological services at all scales and across sectors and be comfortable dealing directly with clients and third parties. Arcus is a multi-disciplinary consultancy and so experience of working with other environmental disciplines and planners is desirable. The Senior Ecologist will work within an established team of ecologists and be responsible for working with staff of all grades across teams, mentoring junior ecology staff and managing subcontractors.

In order to maintain our highly respected professional service we expect excellent attention to detail and communication skills. The candidate will also be responsible for proposals and tendering, so good commercial and financial awareness are essential.

Senior/Principal Engineer

York or Glasgow

Our expert team of consultants offer specialist services across sectors including road and rail infrastructure, renewable energy, water and energy infrastructure. We have quality and capability at our core. We specialise in high profile and sensitive projects where we have an excellent track record on securing consents and facilitating construction.

We have had significant success in developing business in water services, covering hydroelectric development, water quality monitoring, environmental impact assessment (EIA), flood risk assessment, drainage design and drainage impact assessments, and we are recruiting for a candidate that can support these activities, develop the team, and drive this part of the business forward.

Our preferred candidate would be a Chartered Engineer, and be a member either of the ICE and/or CIWEM with around 10+ years of experience. Candidates should have a proven track record in developing business and managing projects in client facing roles. They will be able to use (and support others in developing capabilities in) industry standard approaches and software including Flood Modeller, MicroDrainage, FEH, ReFH.

Environmental Consultant (Hydrology)


We are looking to recruit an Environmental Consultant with hydrology and water quality monitoring experience to work on our projects across the UK from our Glasgow office.  The position is available immediately.  The successful candidate will have at least 3 years’ post graduate experience in a work place, and have an initial degree in a related subject (eg Chemistry, Geography, etc).  A masters degree in an environmental science with specific modules in hydrology and water quality would be advantageous.

We expect a working knowledge of GIS systems, environmental legislation/regulation, EIA, consenting processes and statistical analysis; combined with developed competencies in report writing, verbal communication, team working, scheduling, client management, data management and working within quality management systems.  Key areas of knowledge will include hydrochemistry, private water supply assessments, water quality assessments and hydrological analysis.  Ideally candidates will hold, or be working towards, professional qualification with CIWEM or similar.  Activities will include both office and site based work, and the candidate will be expected to be available for short overnight stays away from home on a reasonably regular basis.

Ecological/Environmental Clerk of Works Required (Sub-Contracted or Employed)


We are looking for an experienced Ecological/Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW) to work on construction projects in Scotland.  The work will be mainly site based and may require periods away from home.  Working outside office hours, as well as at multiple sites and on other projects, is to be expected.


Demonstrable ECoW experience is essential, ideally on wind farms or other large-scale infrastructure projects, and the candidate must have a thorough understanding of legislation and best practice relevant to the range of ecological and environmental sensitivities likely to be encountered.  Such understanding should include materials and surface water management, survey methods for a range of species and habitats, knowledge of construction and forestry techniques and their likely impacts, and mitigation measures.
