Graduate Heritage and Environmental Consultant

Glasgow

Arcus is a multi-disciplinary environmental and planning consultancy delivering high quality projects in all major sectors and at all stages of project lifecycle, from feasibility to construction.  The Arcus team is also a fun and friendly group of people to work with.

Our Glasgow environment team is looking for a graduate heritage EIA consultant to work on a range of multi-disciplinary projects throughout the UK.

This junior level role will involve both field work and also office-based support.  Our friendly and experienced team of heritage and EIA consultants will provide the guidance and support needed to develop junior members of the team.  The ideal candidate will have knowledge of British archaeology, EIA regulations, and the UK’s national planning policy frameworks. They will have excellent oral and written communications skills, able to think strategically, be a creative problem solver and manage the pressure of multiple demands on your time and resources. Key to this role will be the ability to develop confidence and trust in your relationships with clients, stakeholders, statutory consultees, contractors and colleagues alike.

The successful candidate will be able to show they can work positively in a variety of demanding environments, have commercial acumen, work with multi-disciplinary teams with different goals, and assist the environment team with wider EIA issues.  Excellent writing skills are required and any experience in technical report writing is beneficial (e.g. Environmental Impact Assessments, Heritage Statements, Archaeological Desk-based Assessments, etc.).

A full UK driving licence is required and the successful candidate will be willing to travel throughout the UK.

Senior Ecologist

Glasgow

Arcus is a multi-disciplinary environmental, planning and engineering consultancy delivering high quality projects in all major sectors and at all stages of project lifecycle, from feasibility to decommissioning. Our long established but growing ecology team is looking for an ambitious and dynamic Senior Ecologist to join the team to work on a range of projects across different sectors throughout the UK.

As a Senior Ecologist, you will typically have 5+ years of consultancy experience, including experience in project management, and will be able to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of ecological guidance, legislation and policy. Your role will involve fieldwork elements but will be primarily office based, with a focus on project and financial management, survey co-ordination, analysis of baseline environmental data, writing and reviewing technical deliverables, and liaising with clients, stakeholders, contractors and colleagues. You should have sufficient knowledge and experience to carry out these tasks unsupervised, and have the ability to lead others. You will report to a Principal Ecologist and support the in-house ecology and ornithology team, as well as other technical teams and project managers in both Glasgow and York offices.
